MBBR Bio-Chip for Biological Water Treatment - Top China Suppliers & Factory Solutions

When selecting an appropriate biofilm carrier for your MBBR system, one key criterion is the active surface area. This metric serves as an excellent indicator of the biodegradation performance of the carrier media. It's crucial to understand that the biodegradation performance is quantified in kg [pollutant] per m³ [carrier media] per day, enabling precise calculations of the COD/BOD or nitrogen loads to be eliminated. This approach is the only reliable method for determining the necessary quantity of carrier media and the associated costs based on daily biodegradation efficiency, **Design and Shape of the Media**, The choice of material and its density are critical considerations when implementing your MBBR system. Many plastic carriers available from suppliers are composed of virgin polyethylene (PE) or more economical re-granulates made from recycled materials. As a leading factory in China, we ensure our biofilm carriers meet high standards for quality and performance to enhance your wastewater treatment processes. Choose our products for reliable biodegradation solutions that optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness in your applications

    Re-granulates

By their nature, being recycled material, re-granulates contain percentages of different plastics. This can negatively impact the durability of the media and these deficiencies are magnified under operating conditions. The importance of consistent material density cannot be understated, any deficiencies can lead to poor carrier movement characteristics.
    Chemical & Health Risks
To account for these inconsistencies, manufacturers of re-granulate based carrier media often use plasticizers. Plasticizers combined with the re-granulates can release bisphenol A and phthalates which can cause cancer and other hormonal effects. This can be especially problematic for aquaculture and similar industries.

    Virgin polyethylene

Our MBBR BioChip biofilm carrier is completely free from any phthalates or other plasticizers and does not contain bisphenol A or any other aromatic compounds. It is made of the following premium ingredients:
Virgin Polyethylene (No Recycled PE) Inorganic Fillers Monoester of Glyceric Acid (Coconut Fat) Citric Acid Soda (Na2CO3)

    Stability, wear resistance

The next consideration is the choice between a dimensionally stable molded (PE or PP) extruded carrier or a mechanically stressable (i.e. flexible) material. Dimensionally stable carriers often possess the disadvantage of breaking even at small mechanical stress levels. Furthermore, they get increasingly abraded which is due to their stiffness being stressed by kinetic energy within the MBBR. Fractures at the bridges of the carriers are hence not unusual as shown below.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why are re-granulate carrier media problematic for aquaculture?

Re-granulate carriers are made from recycled plastics that lack density consistency, leading to poor movement in the system. To compensate, manufacturers often add plasticizers, which can release bisphenol A and phthalates—compounds known to cause cancer and hormonal disruptions in aquatic life.

What materials are used to manufacture the Virgin Polyethylene BioChip?

The BioChip is manufactured using only virgin polyethylene (no recycled PE), inorganic fillers, small amounts of harmless monoester of glyceric acid (made from coconut fat), citric acid, and soda (Na2CO3).

Does the Virgin Polyethylene BioChip contain harmful chemicals?

No. The BioChip is completely free from phthalates, plasticizers, bisphenol A, and other toxic aromatic compounds, making it entirely safe for sensitive environments like fish farms.

Why is flexible carrier material better than rigid molded carriers?

Rigid molded carriers (PE or PP) are brittle and prone to breaking under kinetic stress in the MBBR. They also suffer from high rates of abrasion. Flexible, mechanically stressable materials withstand kinetic impact without fracturing at the bridges.

What is the active surface area of this MBBR BioChip?

The active protected surface area is greater than 5,500 m²/m³, which is ideal for COD/BOD removal, nitrification, denitrification, and ANAMMOX processes.

What are the main packaging and shipping options?

The carriers are packed in small bags of 0.1m³ each. For container loading, a standard 20ft container holds 30 m³, while a 40HQ standard container holds up to 70 m³.
